The Contract has seen the construction of one of the five quays of the Old port. They were built entirely out of timber cribwork. The heightening of the quays provided better protection against flooding and ice, while the large parallel jetties made for greater docking possibilities for ocean liners. The higher quays likewise made it possible to construct permanent buildings such as sheds and grain elevators
