Photography exhibition 'Nuove avventure sotterranee' opens to the public at MAXXI Museum, in Rome

From June 14th, at Spazio extra MAXXI - Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome, will be on view Nuove avventure sotterranee. The exhibition presents the photographs of Stefano Graziani, Rachele Maistrello, Domingo Milella, Luca Nostri and Giulia Parlato, each of whom was commissioned to freely document the creation of a large construction project worldwide. Commissioned by Ghella, the 100-plus photographs featured in the exhibition were taken between 2022 and 2023 at five construction sites in Italy, Canada, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand.

As Di roccia, fuochi e avventure sotterranee (2021), Nuove avventure sotterranee juxtaposes the new photographic campaigns with archival images documenting infrastructures built by Ghella between the late 1960s and the early 2000s.

In the exhibition narrative, views of construction sites and cities alternating with fossil remains or mechanical components, tropical plants and rocky landscapes, workers at work, and nocturnal animals. The five photographers involved observed and visually interpreted the underground infrastructures, intentionally leaving a poetic distance between the construction sites and their depiction.

The exhibition will be on view until September 25th.
