Trento Railway Bypass (Lot 3A)

Italy

The Trento Railway Bypass (Lot 3A) will deliver a new alignment of the historic Verona–Brenner railway line through the city of Trento. The project will separate freight and passenger rail traffic, reducing rail congestion within the urban area and improving the overall efficiency of the line. The new infrastructure will originate in Roncafort, near the Trento freight terminal, and will reconnect with the existing railway line at Acquaviva after approximately 14 km. Around 11 km of the route will run underground through the new “Trento Tunnel”, a twin-bore natural tunnel. The project forms part of the broader programme to upgrade the Fortezza–Verona railway line, the strategic southern access route to the Brenner Base Tunnel. In doing so, it will contribute to strengthening the Scandinavian–Mediterranean TEN-T Corridor while enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of rail freight transport.
The project also represents a key component in the development of sustainable mobility and the urban regeneration of the Trentino area, helping to improve the integration of infrastructure, the environment and the city.
