Foundation Works for World Trade Center

United States

The involvement of Ghella in it's American journey has seen its participation in the foundation works for the World Trade Center skyscrapers project.
Works included demolition of 13 square blocks of low rise buildings and 1M cubic yards of landfill. Site preparations included an elaborate method of foundation work for which a "bathtub" was built 65 feet below grade, intended to keep out groundwater and the Hudson River.
Tie-backs were inserted through the wall and anchored. A three-foot-wide slurry trench was dug and completed with a 70 story-high steel cage filled with concrete, covering an area two blocks wide and four blocks long.
