Due to the war, the Pescara - Termoli Railway Line section had been heavily damaged.
Reconstruction of the Castello tunnel included 136m of artificial single track tunnel. The wider section included the widening to double track of the Moro Tunnel and the Moro bridge. Widening of the tunnel was done through envelopment of the existing tunnel without stopping normal operation. The tunnels stretched from the Tollo Canosa Sannita Station to the Ortona Station.
