Tunnel excavation begin on the Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station section

On the morning of July 30, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board started tunnel excavation using TBM excavators for the Hanoi Pilot Light Metro Line Project, section Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station (Pilot Light Metro Line 3).

Mr. Nguyen Ba Son – Deputy Head of Hanoi Railway Management Board emphasized: “The groundbreaking of tunnel excavation with TBM today is an important milestone for the underground section of the Hanoi Pilot Urban Railway Project, Nhon – Hanoi Station section, demonstrating the determination and efforts of all parties involved in creating a modern, safe and efficient public transport system in the capital.”

The two TBMS, respectively named “Thần Tốc” (“Flash”) and “Táo Bạo” (“Reckless”) were manufactured by Herrenkecht, are over 100m long, and weigh about 850 tons.

The Pilot Light Metro Line 3 is the first underground line in the Vietnamese capital. It runs for 12.5 km from Nhon – in the Tay Tuu quarter, the western district of Nam Tu Liem - to Hanoi Station. The line runs along 8.5 km of elevated track and 4 km of underground track and includes the construction of four stations: Kim Ma Station, Cat Linh Station, Van Mieuh Station and Hanoi Station.
