Second Phase of Restoration Completed at the Loggia dei Vini in Villa Borghese Park: Reopening to the Public with the LAVINIA Art Project

We are pleased to announce the completion of the second phase of restoration at the Loggia dei Vini in Villa Borghese. This work forms part of a broader commitment to support and enhance Rome’s historic and artistic heritage through targeted initiatives and revitalization projects. Following the restoration of the frescoed ceiling and staircase completed last year, this latest phase involved the repair of internal and external plasterwork, the stabilization of the perimeter walls, and the refurbishment of the pavilion’s roof.

With this second phase complete, the Loggia reopens its doors to the public within the framework of the contemporary art project LAVINIA. The opening is scheduled for Monday, May 26th at 6:00 PM, when two new site-specific installations by designer Johanna Grawunder and artist Daniel Knorr will be unveiled. These new works join the existing installations by Gianni Politi, Monika Sosnowska, Piero Golia, and Enzo Cucchi.

On the same evening at 8:00 PM, the Dante Desire Line Poetry Path will be celebrated with a solo flute recital—a collaboration between artist Ross Birrell and Lebanese flutist and composer Wissam Boustany.

The Loggia will also be open exceptionally on Tuesday, May 27th and Wednesday, May 28th, before returning to regular visiting hours from Thursday through Sunday.

LAVINIA is a three-year project accompanying the Loggia’s restoration program, aimed at visitors to Villa Borghese park. It seeks to revive little-known spaces and to foster a dialogue between contemporary art and historic heritage.

The project, conceived and realized by Ghella under the artistic direction of Salvatore Lacagnina, is promoted by Roma Capitale – Department of Culture and the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage.

The restoration of the Loggia dei Vini was made possible by a donation from Ghella, with scientific supervision by the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage and execution entrusted to R.O.M.A. Consorzio.
