Ghella Featured in ReNew Canada’s Top100 Infrastructure Projects

ReNew Canada has published its annual Top100 Infrastructure Projects report, which ranks and profiles the country’s largest public infrastructure initiatives. Since 2004, ReNew Canada has been a leading voice in Canadian public infrastructure, providing practical insights into the challenges and solutions involved in delivering critical assets across sectors including transit, transportation, energy, healthcare, water, and utilities.

In the latest edition of the report, Ghella is recognized for its involvement in three major projects:

  • Yonge North Subway Extension – ranked 17

  • Eglinton Crosstown West Extension – ranked 20

  • Broadway Subway Extension – ranked 33

This recognition highlights Ghella’s significant contribution to the development of complex, large-scale infrastructure projects that are essential to Canada’s long-term growth and mobility.

Yonge-North Subway Extension

Province: Ontario
City/Region: Toronto/York Region
Project Owner: Metrolinx
Project/Construction Manager – Procurement Agent: Infrastructure Ontario
Project Type: Subway
LEED Status: Certified
Road or Transit Length (KM): 8

The Project
The YNSE will extend the TTCÕs Line 1 subway service approximately eight kilometres from the existing terminus at Finch Station into the City of Richmond Hill. The project runs through the City of Toronto and York Region, including sections within the City of Vaughan, the City of Markham, and the City of Richmond Hill.
It will include an approximately 6.3-kilometre tunnelled segment as well as an above-ground segment that will run along the existing rail corridor in the northern section of the route. Once complete, the YNSE will connect with York Region Transit and GO transit services. In October 2025 Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx released a Request for Qualifications for the Stations, Rail and Systems (SRS) package.

Eglinton Crosstown West Extension

Province: Ontario
City/Region: Toronto/York Region
Project Owner: Metrolinx
Project/Construction Manager: Infrastructure Ontario
Project Type: LRT
LEED Status: Certified
Road or Transit Length (KM): 9.2

The Project
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension is an approximately 9.2-kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (future Line 5), from Mount Dennis to Renforth Drive. Metrolinx is actively collaborating with the GTAA and municipal partners on the proposed alignment from Renforth Drive to the airport. Tunnelling is one of the first phases of work for the project. The project is being delivered in four separate contracts: Advance Tunnelling DBF; Second Advance Tunnelling DBF; Elevated Guideway DB; and Stations and Remaining Work.

Broadway Subway Extension

Province: British Columbia
City/Region: Vancouver
Project Owner: Province of British Columbia
Project Type: LRT
LEED Status: Certified
Road or Transit Length (KM): 5.7

The Project
The Broadway Subway Project will see the addition of six underground stations and 5.7 kilometres of track to the Millennium Line. The extension will run from VCC-Clark Station to Arbutus Street; 700 metres will be elevated guideway and the remainder will be tunneled. The commute from VCC-Clark to Arbutus Station will take 11 minutes, saving the average transit commuter almost 30 minutes a day and will relieve congestion along Broadway. In 2024, tunnel boring operations finished, marking the completion of the most technically complex and challenging part of the new subway construction.
