Design, Construction, Equipement and operation of the El Encanto Hydroelectric project

Costa Rica

The El Encanto 8,4MW installed capacity hydroelectric plant has been completed with all civil works, equipment and operations including a 19meters high intake, 8km of tunnel, a penstock and the transmission line. The maximum height reached by the retaining wall is of 26 meters.
The plant uses water from the Aranjuez river which is led through a 3.4km tunnel built with a 3,43 meter diameter TBM. It then continues in a low pressure reinforced concrete pipe and ends in a surge tank where the penstock starts.
