Construction of First Phase of Metro de Valencia Line 1, from estacion Monumental (not included) to Estacion Miranda (Now Chamber of Commerce)

The Metro Valencia Line 1 is a 5028m long and 9.54m diameter two way metro tunnel excavated with EPB TBM tunneling methodology. The contract included also 7 large underground station structures and two cut and cover sections. 
The Metro was the first underground section of Valencia city and the project included the construction of the rail switching yard including buildings covering a total surface area of 14.000 sq. meters as well as the widening and upgrade of the Trains Deposit Yard. The internal lining has been completed with over 23.000 precast segments. 
Due to the dense urban environment, complex logistics, traffic and transport management was in place. The successful delivery of the project was based on the design and construction management systems put in place and the application of Whole of Life design principles to construction and material selection.  
The reputation gained and the excellent relationship developed with the Client allowed for Ghella to be awarded a second Metro line consisting in 3,7km of undergroung tunnel with same diameter.
